1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how we, the team behind ScanCalorie ("we", "us", "our"), handle information when you use the ScanCalorie mobile application and the scancalorie.fit website (together, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described below.
2. Information we collect
We collect only the information we need to run the Service and improve your experience. That includes:
- Food photos. When you scan a meal, the image is processed by our AI provider to identify foods and estimate nutrition. Photos are processed for this purpose and are not stored permanently on our servers.
- Meal and nutrition logs. Foods you log, the calories, carbs, protein and fat associated with them, and the date and time of each entry.
- Weight and body measurements you enter to power progress charts and goal tracking.
- Usage analytics. Aggregated, anonymized information about how the app is used — screens viewed, features tapped, crashes — to help us improve stability and design.
- Device identifiers and technical data. Device model, OS version, language and region, and an anonymous installation identifier.
- Support correspondence. If you email us, we receive the email address you sent from and the contents of your message.
3. Information we do not collect
- We do not ask for your name or create a profile under your real identity.
- We do not collect your email address except when you choose to contact support.
- We do not handle payment information. All purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store — we never see your card or Apple ID credentials.
- We do not sell your personal information to anyone.
4. How we use information
- To provide the core features of the app — scanning food, logging meals, tracking weight, showing dashboards and reports.
- To personalize meal suggestions and goal recommendations based on the entries you save.
- To improve product quality by measuring performance, diagnosing crashes and studying aggregate feature usage.
- To respond to support requests you send to us.
- To comply with legal obligations, enforce our Terms of Use and prevent fraud or abuse.
5. Third-party services
We use a small number of carefully chosen providers to operate the Service:
- Apple. Handles App Store distribution, subscription billing and in-app purchases in line with Apple's own privacy policy.
- AI vision provider. Processes the food images you choose to scan in order to return nutrition estimates. Images are sent only when you tap scan and are not retained beyond the processing window.
- Firebase / analytics and crash reporting. Provides aggregated usage analytics and crash diagnostics. Identifiers used for analytics are anonymous and not linked to your real-world identity.
These providers may process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy terms. We do not authorize them to use your data for their own advertising.
6. Your rights under GDPR
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to access, correct, export and delete the personal data we hold about you, and to restrict or object to certain processing. You can exercise these rights by emailing support@scancalorie.fit. We will respond within the time frames required by applicable law.
7. Your rights under CCPA
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act gives you the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion of that information and opt out of its sale. We do not sell personal information. To exercise your CCPA rights, contact support@scancalorie.fit.
8. Data retention
Meal logs and weight entries are stored on your device and, where applicable, in associated cloud backups. If you delete the app, your on-device data is removed by iOS. Analytics data is retained in aggregated form only. You can request deletion of any data we hold about you at any time.
9. Security
We use encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) for data sent between the app and our services. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we follow industry practices to reduce risk and limit who on our team can access data.
10. Children's privacy
ScanCalorie is rated for users 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided information to us, please contact support@scancalorie.fit and we will delete it.
11. International transfers
Our providers may process information in countries other than your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards — such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses — to protect data transferred internationally.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, notify you in the app or on this page. Your continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
13. Contact us
